Project 03

SafeSpace – Calm Technology for the Mind

Completion Date February 2025

Project Type: Personal UX/UI Concept
Tools: Figma, Mockuuups Studio
Duration: 2 weeks

Overview

SafeSpace is a self-initiated mobile app project designed to promote emotional well-being through simple daily practices like mood tracking, meditation, and access to professional mental health support. The goal was to create a calming, intuitive user experience that empowers users to connect with their feelings, seek guidance, and take care of their inner world at their own pace.

This project was created as a personal UX/UI design exploration with a strong focus on empathy, emotional safety, and simplicity.

The Problem

Many mental health apps either overwhelm users with features or lack sensitivity in their tone and flow. There’s often a disconnect between functionality and emotional resonance. My goal was to bridge that gap: to build an app that feels warm, calming, and human—even in its microcopy.

The Goal

  • Provide a calming onboarding experience

  • Offer clear daily options (Meditate, Therapy, Set Your Emotions)

  • Integrate guided meditation and therapy sessions in an accessible way

  • Allow users to track their emotions and reflect without judgment

Key Features

• Calm Onboarding

A welcoming intro flow designed with soft colors, animations, and supportive copy. From the very first screen, the user is told: “You’re not alone.”

• Mood Tracking

Users can easily log how they feel, choose from intuitive emotion icons, and add journal entries. A quote at the bottom offers comfort and reflection.

• Personalized Tools

A library of support tools, including meditation playlists, journaling, and calming prompts.

• 1 on 1 Therapy Sessions

Book a session with a licensed mental health professional, view session history, and reschedule within the app.

• Set Your Emotions

Not just tracking — users can set how they wish to feel today and receive supportive actions (e.g., meditation, writing, breathing)

Visual Design

  • Typography:
A mix of soft serif for elegance & modern sans-serif for clarity — blending modern tech with emotional warmth

  • Color Palette:
Soft pinks, muted lilacs, warm peach gradients
Inspired by comfort, tenderness, and body-awareness

  • Tone of Voice:
Calm, poetic, and deeply intentional — no harsh CTAs, no alerts
    "Rhea listens softly."

  • Illustration & Animation:
Subtle movements, circular motifs, emotionally expressive shapes

Outcome

SafeSpace became a design exercise in empathy and simplicity. Through color, flow, and copy, I created an app that doesn't overwhelm — it invites. Each screen is an invitation to check in, not check out.

Reflection

Designing SafeSpace taught me to lead with emotion. I explored the balance between functionality and feeling, and deepened my interest in designing for care, not just conversion.
